Oculus has officially launched its dedicated app for watching videos on a virtual flatscreen that’s said to be the equivalent of a massive 180-inch TV in real life. Called Oculus TV, the app was originally announced at Facebook’s F8 developer conference last month, and will present users with a new way to watch TV shows, movies and streaming videos on the Oculus Go headset. Mi 8 Series Sells over 1 Million Devices in Just 18 Days

I know I’ve used the statement “Xiaomi recently launched…” a lot, but then again, that is due to the fact that Xiaomi actually does launch a lot of products at quite a rapid pace. Despite that, the company still manages to find success for its devices. The Chinese giant had recently launched the Mi 8 series of smartphones, consisting of the flagship Mi 8, accompanied by the Mi 8 Explorer Edtion and lastly, the Mi 8 SE, which is the world’s first smartphone to ship with Qualcomm’s latest processor, the Snapdragon 710. While the devices did look great on paper, it seems like they have been selling pretty well too. View image on Twitter Donovan Sung ✔@donovansung Sharing some amazing news.

The Mi 8 series first went on sale on June 5. Just 18 days later, we've already sold over 1M units!

Nokia Devices to Finally Get Face Unlock

Face unlock is undoubtedly one of the biggest trends in the smartphone world, right alongside the infamous notch. We’ve already seen plenty of smartphone manufacturers incorporate their own variants of face unlock on their devices, with some even dropping the fingerprint scanner as a whole and using just facial recognition. Following this trend, many companies had launched their mobile devices, with promises of a Face Unlock feature to be delivered in a future update. HMD Global, is also about to add the feature to some of its smartphones.
The company has recently launched a handful of great smartphones in the country, such as the Nokia 7 plus, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, and the Nokia 6.1. While the devices have been getting frequent software updates, with always on the latest security patches, one thing that they’ve seemingly missed out on is the face unlock feature. It seems like we may finally have some information regarding the same. When the Dota 2 world championship, ‘The International’, kicks off this August in the Canadian city of Vancouver, the world’s best professional gamers will have some serious competition from five AI bots that will be trying to set a new marker for the power of machine learning. Developed by Elon Musk’s OpenAI research institute, the bots have already beaten a team of highly-skilled Dota 2 players who rank among the top 1 percent globally, and will now take on the best professional players in 5-against-5 exhibition game at what is said to be one of the biggest e-sports tournaments in the world with an annual prize money that’s said to be in the region of $40 million. However, while the earlier match was played under special rules to level the playing field, OpenAI CTO and co-founder, Greg Brockman, now says that the bots will be ready for a proper match by the time the tournament starts in two months time. “We’ve seen professional-level plays emerge from this system”, he said in an in…

Apple to Release High-End AirPods, New HomePod, and Over-Ear Headphones in 2019

Apple has been investing heavily in the audio department, with a lot of products expected to be released soon. We have heard about the 2018 AirPods which could come with voice-activated Siri along with high-end, over-ear headphones with an “all-new” design as well. However, new reports suggest that these devices could very well be released next year, along with another speaker device. As reported by “people familiar with the matter” to Bloomberg, Apple is planning to release higher-end AirPods, studio-quality over-the-ear headphones, and a new HomePod smart speaker in 2019. The new AirPods will be noise canceling and water resistant enough to combat rain and perspiration. The company is also looking to increase the distance that AirPods can function away from an iPhone or iPad. Furthermore, there are plans on releasing high-end, over-the-ear headphones in 2019 that will be competitive with models from Bose and Sennheiser. PUBG Players Without the Premium Pass Will Have to Play 200+Hrs to Reach Level 20

Gamers who did not buy the PUBG Sanhok event pass will need to play the game for over 200 hours (6-8 hours daily for 29 days straight) to unlock all the content on their way to level 20, which is the maximum that one can attain without the pass. The premium pass, which costs $10, offers 30 levels and a number of rewards. The number crunching was done by Reddit user iisfitblud, and if correct, gamers starting now with 26 days remaining will have to play for around 12+ hours per day to get to level 20. However, PUBG’s commutation lead, Ryan Rigney, has announced that an update next week will make it slightly easier for players to reach level 20. The introduction of a premium pass in a paid-for game has become a massively contentious issue for players, and has resulted in a number of angry posts on social media, gaming forums and message boards all over the internet. Following the firestorm of angry messages, PUBG started offering a couple of additional guaranteed rewards, but that does…

Apple Has Started Commercial Manufacture of the iPhone 6s in India

The iPhone 6s may have been originally launched way back in 2015, but the device apparently still has a lot of life left in it, as Apple has started commercial production of the device at the Bengaluru facility of its contract manufacturing partner, Wistron. According to sources quoted by ET, the Taiwan-based firm has set up a new line for the handset that has now become the second Apple smartphone after the iPhone SE to be made in India. Manufacturing the iPhone 6s in India will help Apple save significantly on import duties, thanks to the massive tax-concessions being offered by the government as part of its Make-it-India initiative that seeks to bring more manufacturing jobs to the country. The company hiked iPhone prices across all models after the government increased customs duties twice within three months, going from 10 per cent to 15 per cent last year and then to 20 per cent in February. The 6s sports a 4.7-inch LCD display, and is powered by the A9 chip that features an AR…

Social Media or Social Epidemic? Fake News Leads to 22 Murders in India in One Year

As a result of Jio’s entry in India, the internet has reached a much wider demographic than earlier. With this, many Indians have come to use apps like Facebook, and WhatsApp for the first time and even enjoy it. But on the darker side, this easy access to the internet has also resulted in the propagation of hoaxes and misleading information. Lately, WhatsApp in India is plagued with the blatant messaging forward out of which almost half of the news is fake. But, the alarming part is that this ignorance has led to violence. Phony messages about “child lifters” or kidnappers have been making rounds on WhatsApp and in the last thirteen months, this has resulted in irrational and absurd brutality by lynch mobs leading to at least 22 reported deaths. Image Courtesy: News18 Only a fortnight after two young men were beaten to death in Assam over suspicion of being child abductors, another incident from Madhya Pradesh comes to light. Mobilized by a WhatsApp message about kidnappers who would…
